BEFORE/AFTER II- Mid-Century Ranch in the Burbs

In 2008, after living for 8 years in the "City Bakery", we set out for a bit of a change of pace.  We looked all over the region, trying only to find a place with character, a bit of a yard, and a good studio for Daniel (the big bakery studio was not going to be an easy act to follow).
After scouring listings for over a year, a friend suggested we check out this place that sat on an acre of land, and had a huge detached garage.  "It could be a great studio", she said.
I knew exactly which place she was talking about- by this time, I had every house for sale in STL memorized.  I wasn't interested.  It was red- like a barn.  It had crazy ugly fireplaces.  It had carpet and gingham wallpaper.  Nope.
Daniel said- at least let's go look at it.
We walked in- we were sold.  It was sturdy. It sat on a beautiful acre of land with a nicely fenced back yard, it had a huge detached garage that would become Daniel's studio.  It was ugly (we can totally handle that part), and it was perfect.

Little by little, the ugly went away and we made it ours.  Not nearly the gut rehab that the bakery was (we were STILL tired), but mostly painting- taking up carpet, and changing out a few ugly surfaces and finishes.

Here are some BEFORE/AFTER shots (in case there's any confusion BEFORE is on the LEFT, AFTER is on the RIGHT):
Exterior
Family Room
Main Living Room

Kitchen
Dining Room
Master Bedroom

As you can see, we didn't really change the layout of the house at all- we just removed surfaces we didn't like, or painted new colors, and removed the carpet- blek!!  Changed out most light fixtures, restained the house, and made it our own.  We didn't have to do a huge remodel to make this home look  quite a lot different than it was when we first bought it.
What do you think about the AFTER????
